Behavioral Health and Medicaid

Medicaid has two groups of plans. These plans are referred to as Legacy Medicaid/ACO plans and Integrated Medicaid/UMIC plans.

Legacy Medicaid/ ACO

Legacy Medicaid/ACO plans cover medical care only. Behavioral Health coverage is carved out by the State and the provider is dependent on the members’ county of residence.
Members who live in Utah, Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Cache, Iron, Morgan, Rich, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, or Washington county must choose a health plan through an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Members who live in any other County in Utah have the option of selecting a health plan through an ACO, or they can remain with the state and utilize the Fee for Service Network.

Integrated/UMIC

Integrated plans include coverage for medical and behavioral health services through the ACO. These plans are limited to members who qualify for Medicaid through the Medicaid expansion criteria who live in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, Washington, or Weber Counties.
