Choosing the right health insurance plan is one of the most important decisions you’ll make each year. Open enrollment is the time to review your options, make changes, and ensure your coverage fits your needs. Select Health is here to guide you through the process with expert tips. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming open enrollment season.

Key open enrollment dates and deadlines

Open enrollment is your yearly window to enroll in or change your health insurance plan. Here are the important dates to remember for those signing up for individual plans:

Utah and Colorado

Open enrollment in Utah and Colorado runs from November 1, 2024, through January 15, 2025.

You must enroll by December 15, 2024 to have coverage start on January 1, 2025.

Marketplace coverage starts on February 1, 2025 for those who enrolled in or changed their plans between December 16, 2024, and January 15, 2025 in Utah and Colorado.

January 15 is the final day to sign up for or modify Marketplace health plans for the year.

Nevada

Open enrollment in Nevada runs from November 1, 2024, through January 15, 2025.

You must enroll by December 31, 2024 to have coverage start on January 1, 2025. Marketplace coverage starts on February 1, 2025 for those who enrolled in or changed their plans between January 1, 2025, and January 15, 2025 in Nevada.

January 15 is the final day to sign up for or modify Marketplace health plans for the year.

Idaho

Enrollment begins October 15 and ends December 15. Your coverage begins on January 1.

Changes are only allowed after each state’s deadline if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

If you miss these deadlines, you could be left with your current plan unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. A major life event — such as having a baby, getting married, or losing other coverage — might qualify you for special enrollment.

What to do before open enrollment begins

Being prepared is key. Before it starts, take the time to review your current health plan and check to make sure it still fits your needs. Here’s a checklist to help you get ready:

  • Gather your documents, including your household income, current insurance coverage, and a list of your family’s healthcare needs.
  • Check any changes in your health and consider whether you or a family member has had any significant health changes this year.
  • Review your current plan and its costs.

Once you’ve reviewed your situation, you’re ready to explore your options. Select Health offers a variety of individual plans designed to meet different needs and budgets.

Tips for choosing the right health plan

Choosing a health care plan is personal and depends on what you value most.

If you don’t anticipate frequent doctor visits or expensive medications and you’d like to keep monthly costs low, choosing a plan with a low monthly premium might be a good option for you.

If you know you’ll need certain medications every month and want to make sure they’re covered, be sure to check each plan’s pharmacy coverages.

Some plans offer additional benefits like mental health services, vision, or dental coverage.

The plan you choose should reflect what is most important to you — whether it’s low out-of-pocket costs or extensive coverage. Select Health offers flexible options to tailor your plan to your needs.
