A health coach partners with you to help you reach your wellness goals. They help you identify what is most important to you and plan ways to build sustainable habits and skills.
Coaches are not doctors, therapists, dietitians, or nutritionists; they will not prescribe or treat you for any health conditions. However, they can connect you with resources that may be helpful. At Select Health, coaches have a Health and Wellness Coaching Certification, and some are Nationally Board-certified Health and Wellness coaches.
Nothing. If eligible, Health Coaching comes with your Select Health medical benefit plan at no additional cost to you.
Sessions are conducted virtually using Microsoft Teams or through a phone call. You can choose whether to turn your camera on or off during a virtual session (your coach will follow suit). A coach will send you a secure email using encryption to ensure your health information is private.
Yes! Everything we discuss and email to members is confidential. This includes all coaching sessions, notes, and information shared. If sessions are recorded for training purposes you will be notified and asked permission in advance.
The first coaching session is 45 minutes long and follow up sessions are 20-30 minutes.
Participation is voluntary. You are not required to complete six sessions. If you feel complete after 1 or more session you can let you coach know you do not wish to continue.
We recommend meeting every 2-3 weeks for the first few months and then monthly up to six sessions.
You can email or call your coach to schedule your session. At the end of each session, you and your coach will schedule your next call.
You can email or call your coach to cancel or reschedule. There is no cancellation fee, however, we kindly ask that you cancel 24-48 hours in advance. If you cancel more than twice without 24 hours’ notice, your coach will end your coaching engagement and you’ll need to reach out to re-enroll. If you do not show up for your session, your coach will reach out twice and close your case if no response is received.
Depending on your employer’s plan, you could qualify for an additional six sessions. Talk to your health coach directly to determine how many sessions you are eligible for.
Be ready to discuss your successes, motivation to be healthy and well, review your goals, and explore barriers that keep you from living your healthiest life. Everyone is unique. You’ll discuss what is most important to you given where you’re at on your own wellness journey.
Our goal is to share resources that could benefit you such as preventative care recommendations, health and fitness apps, and other wellness services you may be eligible for.
No. We do not provide individual meal or exercise plans. However, we can help you find programs that may provide these services, or we can discuss alternative ways to approach your eating or exercise habits.
Currently our Health Coaching program is only available to the primary insurance subscriber.
If you are a Select Health subscriber, you may refer yourself through the form or by emailing us. If you are a provider, you may also refer a Select Health subscriber through either method.
Not everyone is eligible for Select Health’s Health Coaching program, but we will follow up with those referred and discuss eligibility or alternative resources.
