A Business Alliance That Just Makes Sense

This business alliance is a great thing for residents of Idaho.

Periodically, you come across an alliance that just meshes. Sometimes it’s in sports, other times it’s in business or relationships. The bond extends beyond the borders of what each is capable of individually.

This type of camaraderie usually isn’t just born, it’s made. Let’s explore a business alliance that has forged a bond to accomplish something greater for the community it serves.

SelectHealth and St. Luke's Health System

This alliance started in 2012, is unique to the Idaho area, and has made a big impact in the community. SelectHealth initially provided health insurance to residents of Utah, but expanded its health plans to Idaho when the alliance formed.

The alliance with St. Luke's Health System aims to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare. It all began with a strong foundation of shared values: a not-for-profit mission, a vision of individual choice and accountability, and a community pledge to promote health and well-being. As a result of the alliance, SelectHealth now insures more than 100,000 people in Idaho.

Because a health insurance provider and system of hospitals collaborated, Idahoans who use both services are experiencing lower healthcare costs.

Judy Peavey-Derr, a resident of the Boise, Idaho area shared her satisfaction regarding the alliance. “When I began looking for a new insurance plan, I didn’t know anything about SelectHealth. By coincidence, one of St. Luke's Board of Directors talked to me while I was making my decision. He was able to give me his reasons for choosing SelectHealth as his insurance carrier.”

“I also asked my broker to take a good look at SelectHealth. She followed up and gave me some choices. After reviewing my options. . . I chose SelectHealth Advantage. I've been happy with my decision ever since!

Peavey-Derr isn’t the only one who has liked or benefitted from the alliance. Kim Vasquez lives in Idaho and has an individual plan (non-employer paid). Vasquez said, “My first experience with Member Services was a good one.” She continued, “In one instance, my doctor recommended a procedure and gave me a referral to a provider who could perform the procedure. When I called Member Services, they educated me about the out-of-pocket costs to see this provider.”

“I was so thankful to the customer service rep because she advised me that this provider was out of my network. The rep then recommended an in-network provider for the lowest copays.”

SelectHealth and St. Luke’s Health System want to continue this mission within the community by focusing on innovations and services that benefit all members, such as the SelectHealth mobile app, expanded product options, award-winning customer service, and service initiatives.
