Students can participate in a fitness challenge two different ways.

  • Students will participate in a pre-assessment and be encouraged to beat their own assessment scores in the post-assessment at the end of the eight weeks. These assessments were adapted from the President’s Fitness Challenge and are available at www.presidentschallenge.org
  • Students are encouraged to increase their physical activity minutes by competing against other 4th-grade classes in their school. Several 4th grade classes will then complete against other 4th-grade classes in other schools.

Tracking

Each student will receive a “passport” tracking booklet where they will record their minutes of daily physical activity. Students will convert the minutes into miles for a virtual trip to Beijing, China. Teachers are also provided different tracking tools to use if they would like.

Classroom Tracking

Students and teachers are provided tools to track their physical activity and measure success.

Student Passport

  • Students record their minutes of activity, and they are verified by a parent signature.
  • At the end of the week, the minutes are converted to miles using division (total minutes are divided by 20)

Classroom Weekly Tracking Poster (optional)

  • Collect total miles from the children at the conclusion to enter into the electronic tracker

Electronic Tracker

  • Total the childrens’ miles (the minutes need to be converted to miles in their passports)

Large world map for school

  • Students use Chinese Junk Ship to mark total 4th- grade progress.
