Like the milestones of the first baby teeth or first steps, immunizations are an important part of your child’s growth. They protect children and those around them from serious diseases such as measles, whooping cough, and rubella.

Remember, there are many opinions about immunizations. Just make sure you get the facts from a reliable source. We recommend http://cdc.gov/vaccines.

Follow the chart below to make sure your child gets specific immunizations at the time when they’re most vulnerable to diseases, and call your child's doctor to schedule a visit. Most of the time immunizations can be given during well-child exam visits.

Immunization Abbreviations
  • DTaP: Diptheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis
  • Hib: Haemophilus b conjugate
  • MMR: Measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Varicella: Varicella zoster virus (chickenpox)
  • Td: Tetanus and diphtheria
  • Tdap: Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis
  • HPV: Human Papillomavirus
  • Hib: Haemophilus b conjugate

* SelectHealth covers the Rotavirus immunization under a different benefit than other childhood vaccines. You may be responsible for a coinsurance amount depending on your plan benefits.
**No varicella vaccine needed if child had chicken pox.
