Adolescent Immunizations

Help your teen stay healthy with yearly checkups. Your teen's doctor can offer good advice about teen health, including the following topics:

  • Substance abuse (tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs)
  • Injury prevention, including sports safety, seat belts, helmets, and firearm safety
  • Proper nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Your teen's physical, social, and emotional development
  • Screening tests, such as hearing and vision exams

Annual visits with the doctor are also a great time to catch up on important immunizations. The chart below offers national recommendations.

Immunization Abbreviations

  • DTaP: Diptheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis
  • Hib: Haemophilus b conjugate
  • MMR: Measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Varicella: Varicella zoster virus (chickenpox)
  • Td: Tetanus and diphtheria
  • Tdap: Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis
  • HPV: Human Papillomavirus
