SelectHealth Covering H1N1 Vaccine Administrative Costs

As we enter the 2009 flu season, many are anticipating the new H1N1 virus in addition to the yearly, seasonal flu virus. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has now declared a nationwide public health emergency related to the H1N1 virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has designated vaccination as the most powerful public health tool against influenza.

A vaccine has been developed against H1N1. Federal and local officials are deciding who qualifies for the vaccine and how distribution will be handled. These agencies will alert the general public when it is available.

In an effort to best serve our members, we will provide coverage for the administrative costs of the H1N1 vaccine. We will wave copays, coinsurance, and deductible amounts for all medical plan members who qualify. Administrative costs for members of self-funded plans will be covered unless directed otherwise by the plan sponsor by October 16, 2009.

The Utah Department of Health’s Flu Vaccine Locator is an online tool to help you find the closest season flu clinic. Visit immunize-utah.org to find a clinic. H1N1 vaccine clinics will be added to this tool when the vaccine is released.
