Why should I take a generic drug?

Generic drugs typically cost less than brand-name drugs and have lower copays/coinsurance.

Generic medications have the same active ingredients, safety, dosages, quality, and strength as their brand-name counterparts. Both brand-name drugs and generic drugs must get approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before they can be sold.

The FDA requires generic drugs to have the same quality and performance as brand-name drugs.
