Women’s Health and Well-Being Coverage

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, many preventive services will be available at no cost to you (for a complete list of services, click here).

The Health Resources and Services Administration recently announced additional women’s health services that will be included in the list of preventive care benefits.These changes take effect at your plan or policy’s first renewal after August 1, 2012.

Please note: These changes may not apply to all plans, including government plans, or employer-sponsored plans that maintain grandfathered status. For questions about your plan, please contact Member Services at 801-442-5038 (Salt Lake area) or 800-538-5038.

Covered Services for Women
  • Well-woman visits
  • Screening for gestational diabetes
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing
  • Counseling for sexually transmitted infections
  • Counseling and screening for human immune-deficiency virus (HIV)
  • Contraceptive methods and counseling* (all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and education and counseling)
  • Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling (lactation support and counseling--by a trained provider during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period) and costs for renting breastfeeding equipment.
  • Screening and counseling for interpersonal and domestic violence
