SelectHealth Definitions
Grandfathered Plans – Employer or individual plans that were in effect on March 23, 2010, (the date of the passage of PPACA) and as further defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Non-Grandfathered Plans – Employer or individual plans that became effective after March 23, 2010, (the date of the passage of the Affordable Care Act) and as further defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Child – A child is defined as any of the following:
- Natural child of you or your lawful spouse; or
- Adopted child or child placed for adoption with you or your lawful spouse; or
- A child under legal guardianship through testamentary appointment or court order (but not under temporary guardianship or guardianship for school residency purposes) of you or your lawful spouse.
